Hindustan Zinc Declared Successful Bidder for Critical Mineral Block

Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) has been declared the successful bidder for a key Tungsten and Associated Mineral Block in Andhra Pradesh under the Government of India’s Critical Mineral Auction Tranche V. The Ministry of Mines confirmed the award through a notification dated 14 November 2025. The Balepalyam block in Kanaganapalle, Sri Satya Sai district, spans 308.30 hectares and falls under the G3 exploration category. Tungsten, recognized globally as a critical metal, holds strategic value in defence, aerospace, energy-efficient technologies, and high-performance alloys. The acquisition marks another step in HZL’s diversification strategy and supports India’s mission toward critical mineral self-reliance. HZL secured the block through the government’s e-auction process following a tender issued in June 2024. Once formalities conclude, a Composite License will be granted to the company, paving the way for detailed exploration and potential development. This development underscores Hindustan Zinc’s expansion beyond its core zinc–lead–silver portfolio into strategic minerals, bolstering its long-term growth roadmap as India strengthens its critical mineral ecosystem.
