NHPC Board Approves ₹5,700+ Crore Investment in J&K Hydro Projects
State-owned hydropower major **NHPC Limited** has approved major investment proposals for two hydroelectric projects in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, reinforcing its commitment to expanding clean energy capacity in the region.
In a Board meeting held on February 20, 2026, the company cleared an investment of ₹2,708.95 crore for the **Uri-I Stage-II Hydro Electric Project (240 MW)**. The approved cost includes ₹264.31 crore towards Interest During Construction (IDC) and ₹26.20 crore allocated for enabling infrastructure. The project is scheduled to commence construction from March 1, 2026, subject to the signing of an implementation agreement with the Government of Jammu & Kashmir and other necessary approvals.
Additionally, the Board approved the Dulhasti Stage-II Hydro Electric Project (260 MW) at an estimated completion cost of ₹2,993.96 crore. This includes ₹289.06 crore for IDC and ₹245 crore for enabling infrastructure. Construction for this project is also proposed to begin from March 1, 2026, following requisite approvals and agreements.
With a combined planned capacity of 500 MW and total investment exceeding ₹5,700 crore, these approvals mark a significant step in strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure and boosting hydro capacity in Jammu & Kashmir.
