🛢️ Oil India Strengthens Energy Infrastructure with Major Pipeline Upgrade

India has taken another significant step toward strengthening its energy logistics network as Oil India Limited announced the successful capacity augmentation of the Numaligarh–Siliguri Product Pipeline (NSPL). The project was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public event in Guwahati, marking an important milestone for the country’s petroleum transportation infrastructure. 🔧 Project Highlights • The 654-km cross-country multi-product pipeline connects Numaligarh in Assam to Siliguri in West Bengal. • Pipeline capacity has been expanded from 1.72 MMTPA to 5.5 MMTPA, enabling significantly higher fuel transportation. • The upgrade supports the expansion of Numaligarh Refinery Limited from 3 MMTPA to 9 MMTPA, aligned with India’s Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for the North-East. ⚙️ Infrastructure Enhancements The capacity increase was achieved through multiple operational upgrades including: • Conversion of pigging stations into intermediate pumping stations • Augmentation of pumping facilities at the Numaligarh dispatch terminal • Upgradation of infrastructure at the Siliguri receipt terminal to improve operational efficiency and safety. 💰 Efficient Execution The project was implemented as a brownfield development, allowing optimization of existing infrastructure. Impressively, the augmentation was completed at ~₹750 crore, below the approved cost of ₹860 crore, demonstrating strong cost discipline. 👷 Economic & Strategic Impact The project generated approximately 4.1 million man-hours of employment during construction across Assam and West Bengal.
