ONGC Successfully Caps Gas Leak at Well RDS#147A
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has successfully completed the capping operation at Well RDS#147A, located in Rudrasagar, bringing a crucial chapter in its well control operations to a safe and effective conclusion.
The incident began on June 12, 2025, during service operations when a blowout led to an uncontrolled gas release. Responding promptly, ONGC’s Crisis Management Team (CMT), in collaboration with experts from CUDD Pressure Control and local operational teams, initiated a high-precision effort to stabilize the situation.
The damaged Blowout Preventer (BOP) was carefully removed from the wellhead, following which a pre-positioned capping stack was installed with pinpoint accuracy. This redirected the gas flow to the top of the stack, ensuring containment and control.
With the BOP successfully closed, the gas leak was completely halted. ONGC emphasized that the entire operation was executed without a single injury, fire, or fatality, highlighting the team's engineering excellence, detailed planning, and seamless coordination.
This marks the final field update regarding the RDS#147A incident. ONGC expressed gratitude to the District and State Administration, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and the local community for their unwavering support.
ONGC reaffirmed its commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence in all its endeavors.
