Sensex, Nifty End Higher Amid Volatile Trade; Infosys Falls Over 7%

Wednesday, 4 February 2026 Indian equity markets closed marginally higher on Wednesday after a volatile trading session. The S&P BSE Sensex ended 78.56 points higher at 83,817.69, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 48.45 points to settle at 25,776. Most broader market indices also finished in positive territory, even as intraday swings kept traders on edge. Markets witnessed mixed sentiment throughout the day. The major drag came from the IT sector, where Infosys tumbled more than 7%, weighing heavily on benchmark indices and leading to sharp fluctuations. The decline followed earnings-related concerns and cautious outlook commentary. However, strength in banking, auto, and select FMCG stocks helped offset the weakness in technology shares. Midcap and smallcap indices showed relative resilience, indicating continued participation from domestic investors. Global cues and foreign fund flows remain key triggers for near-term market direction. Analysts expect markets to remain stock-specific with volatility likely to persist in the coming sessions.
