## **Tata Steel Breaks Ground on Green Steel Project at Port Talbot**

Tata Steel UK has officially commenced construction of its state-of-the-art **Electric Arc Furnace (EAF)** at **Port Talbot**, marking a significant step towards sustainable steelmaking. The groundbreaking ceremony, held on **July 14, 2025**, was led by **Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran**, alongside Tata Steel CEO **T. V. Narendran** and Tata Steel UK CEO **Rajesh Nair**. The £1.25 billion project, backed by **£500 million from the UK Government**, represents the UK’s largest low-carbon steelmaking investment. Once operational by **end-2027**, the new facility is expected to cut **90% of carbon emissions** at Port Talbot, reducing around **5 million tonnes of CO₂ annually**. It will secure **5,000 direct jobs** and ensure the long-term future of steel production in Wales. The EAF will recycle **UK-sourced scrap steel**, producing **3 million tonnes of green steel per year**. This move aligns with Tata Steel’s commitment to achieve **net-zero emissions by 2045**. Leaders from both the UK and Welsh Governments hailed the project as a crucial part of the nation’s industrial and green transition strategies. Tata Steel reaffirms its role as a key player in **responsible and sustainable manufacturing**.
