Vodafone Idea Faces Customs Penalty: Plans Legal Challenge

Vodafone Idea Limited has received an order from the Commissioner of Customs, Chennai, imposing a penalty of ₹61.23 lakh and a redemption fine of ₹20 lakh under the Customs Act, 1962, for alleged misclassification of goods and denial of exemption. The company disclosed this development to the stock exchanges on April 5, 2025, under SEBI regulations. While the total financial impact includes the penalty, fine, and applicable taxes, Vodafone Idea has stated that it disagrees with the order and plans to take appropriate legal action. The issue is expected to remain limited to financial implications without affecting the company’s operations.
