Zydus Lifesciences Gets USFDA Nod for Key Diabetes Drug – A Positive Boost

Zydus Lifesciences has received tentative approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for **Dapagliflozin Tablets (5 mg and 10 mg)**, a major drug used in the treatment of Type-2 diabetes. The approval allows the company to manufacture and market the generic version of AstraZeneca’s blockbuster drug **Farxiga**, once patent restrictions are cleared. Dapagliflozin is a widely prescribed SGLT2 inhibitor that helps improve blood sugar control in adults. The drug recorded annual sales of **USD 10.48 billion in the US market (IQVIA MAT December 2025)**, highlighting the strong revenue potential for Zydus in the world’s largest pharmaceutical market. The tablets will be produced at Zydus’ SEZ manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad, strengthening the company’s US-focused generics portfolio. With this approval, Zydus has now secured **430 ANDA approvals** out of 505 filings since FY 2003-04, reinforcing its execution capabilities in regulated markets. This development is strategically important as diabetes therapies continue to witness strong global demand. The approval is expected to improve Zydus’ US revenue visibility and long-term growth outlook, making it a positive trigger for investors. **Short Disclaimer:** This is for informational purposes only and not a buy/sell recommendation.
