has entered the Guinness World Records for constructing the world’s longest road using processed steel slag aggregates. Developed in collaboration with CSIR-CRRI, the 1.85-km, four-lane road at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh uses around 2 lakh tonnes of processed steel slag, replacing conventional natural aggregates used in road construction.
The project demonstrates how an industrial by-product of steel manufacturing can be converted into a useful infrastructure material, reducing dependence on quarrying and supporting a more circular approach to resource utilisation. Scientifically processed steel slag can also offer cost and durability advantages over conventional road materials, with the technology potentially becoming increasingly relevant as India expands its road and infrastructure network.
The broader opportunity could be significant for the steel industry. Steel slag generation in India is expected to increase substantially as domestic steel capacity expands, creating a need for large-scale and productive utilisation of this by-product. Wider adoption of slag-based road construction could therefore help convert what was traditionally treated as waste into an additional resource.#FundamentalViews#WatchOutFor#StockInNews#MacroViews#EquityResearch
