Coal India Limited (CIL), established in 1975, is the world's largest coal producer and a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Coal, Government of India. Headquartered in Kolkata, CIL operates through eight subsidiaries across eight states, managing over 300 mines, including underground, opencast, and mixed mines. The company plays a pivotal role in meeting India's energy requirements, accounting for approximately 82% of the nation's coal production In the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2024–25, CIL reported a consolidated net profit of ₹9,593 crore, marking a 12% increase compared to ₹8,530 crore in the same period the previous year. Despite a slight decline in revenue, the company's profitability remained robust. CIL declared a final dividend of ₹5.15 per share for FY25, reflecting its commitment to shareholder returns
