RailTel Secures ₹166.8 Crore EPFO Cloud Services Order, Strengthening Its Government Digital Infrastructure Business

RailTel Corporation of India has received a ₹166.8 crore work order from the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) for providing Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), extending an existing engagement for another year with additional components. The order is scheduled to be completed by 9 February 2027, giving RailTel near-term revenue visibility from its cloud and IT services business. The development is important because it reinforces RailTel's growing presence beyond its traditional railway-focused telecom business and highlights the company's ability to secure technology contracts from government institutions. This is particularly relevant as RailTel has been expanding its project business, cloud services and data-centre capabilities. Its Q1 FY27 project revenue grew around 30% year-on-year, while its order book stood at approximately ₹11,747 crore as of June 2026, providing a sizeable base for future execution. The latest EPFO order therefore adds to an already strong pipeline rather than representing a standalone opportunity. However, investors should focus on the quality and profitability of these contracts, because higher revenue does not automatically translate into higher earnings if project costs and working-capital requirements rise. RailTel also has significant government receivables, which makes cash-flow conversion an important factor to monitor. The company has retained its FY27 revenue-growth guidance of 20–25%, while management expects project business to remain a key growth driver. Overall, the order is positive for RailTel's revenue visibility and cloud/IT business, but the longer-term investment case will depend on whether the company can convert its large order book into revenue while maintaining healthy margins and improving cash-flow generation.
