ICICI Bank is an important example of how investors should study the quality of earnings rather than only revenue or profit growth. In Q1 FY27, the bank reported standalone net profit of about ₹14,804.5 crore, up 15.9% YoY, while net interest margin improved to 4.36% and provisions declined sharply. Recent market commentary has also described ICICI Bank as a relative outperformer among major private banks. For beginners, the key lesson is to track NIM, credit growth, gross/net NPA, provision coverage, ROA and ROE. A bank can report strong profit growth but still face future problems if asset quality deteriorates. $ICICIBANK therefore illustrates why investors should examine both the growth engine and risk engine of a financial company. Private banks are currently attracting more favourable attention than PSU banks, but investors should avoid assuming that past performance automatically guarantees future returns.
