HAL Signs Final Contract With Safran for Aravalli Engine

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Safran Helicopter Engines have signed a contract through their JV SAFHAL Helicopter Engines Pvt Ltd.

The contract covers design, development, manufacturing, supply and lifecycle support of the new-generation ‘Aravalli’ high-power helicopter engine. The engine is being developed in the 3,500–4,000 shp power class for HAL’s upcoming 13-ton Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH) and its naval variant Deck-Based Multi-Role Helicopter (DBMRH). The programme aims to strengthen India's indigenous helicopter-engine capabilities and reduce reliance on imported propulsion technologies. The programme is also expected to support development of a domestic aerospace ecosystem and indigenous MRO capabilities in India. Beyond military applications, the engine could potentially address future civil helicopter markets, including offshore transportation, utility and VVIP missions.
