šŸ¤Adani Power Harnesses Himalayan Currents: A 570 MW Leap in Bhutan

Imagine a powerhouse of India’s energy landscape branching into the Himalayan heartland—Adani Power

ADANIPOWER
has just signed a landmark pact with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) to build the Wangchhu hydropower project, a 570 MW facility under the BOOT (Build–Own–Operate–Transfer) model, with investment pegged at around ₹6,000 crore. The project addresses Bhutan’s peak winter energy deficit, while ensuring surplus power flows into India during summer. Construction is slated to begin by early 2026, and the plant is expected to be operational within five years. This partnership builds upon a May 2025 Memorandum of Understanding, under which Adani and DGPC aim to jointly develop 5,000 MW of hydropower projects in Bhutan—underscoring a long-term, strategic green energy cooperation. Beyond infrastructure, this collaboration symbolizes deepening India–Bhutan renewable energy ties, mutual energy security, and a shared vision for sustainable regional growth. Learning Takeaway: Regional hydropower collaboration like the Wangchhu project exemplifies sustainable energy diplomacy and supports economic growth with cross-border renewable infrastructure.
