Hitachi Energy Gains 3% on ₹2,000 Crore Transformer Plant

Hitachi Energy India shares rose 3.56% after announcing a ₹2,000 crore investment to set up a Large Power Transformer factory in Vadodara, Gujarat scheduled for completion in FY28. The facility will manufacture transformers for high voltage transmission, HVDC, power generation, AI data centres and large industrial projects. India is simultaneously expanding its power generation capacity, building new transmission infrastructure and constructing AI data centres all of which need large power transformers. Hitachi Energy is betting ₹2,000 crore that this demand will stay strong for years. The Make in India alignment also opens doors to government procurement preferences a significant advantage. This is the same theme we saw with Dixon Technologies. AI data centres consume enormous amounts of electricity and need sophisticated power infrastructure including large transformers. By specifically mentioning data centres as a target market Hitachi Energy is positioning itself at the intersection of India's power grid expansion and AI infrastructure boom two of the most powerful growth themes in India right now. Power transformers step up or step down electricity voltage for transmission across long distances. Without them electricity generated at a power plant cannot reach homes, factories or data centres efficiently. As India adds more renewable energy capacity and data centres the need for large transformers grows directly making this a structural long term demand story. $POWERINDIA Hitachi Energy's ₹2,000 crore transformer plant announcement taught me that companies investing in critical power infrastructure at the intersection of grid expansion and AI data centre growth are positioning for multiple demand drivers simultaneously, making it essential to track capacity expansion announcements for power equipment companies like Hitachi Energy, $ABBABB India and $ENRIN Siemens before investing in India's energy transition story.
