India–EU FTA: Bridging Continents, Boosting Confidence, Building Trade for Tomorrow
The India–EU Free Trade Agreement aims to unlock export potential, attract investments, and enhance India’s global trade competitiveness.
Post Body:
When two of the world’s largest economies sit across the table, the outcome can redefine global trade flows. 🌐
From November 3–7, a high-level EU delegation met India’s trade negotiators in New Delhi to accelerate talks on the long-awaited India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) — a pact that could transform how Indian goods and services reach global markets.
At the heart of the discussion were key sectors — goods, services, investment, and sustainable trade. 🇮🇳🤝🇪🇺
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal and EU Director General Sabine Weyand led detailed deliberations, closing gaps in critical areas like market access and technical trade barriers.
India emphasized the need for clarity on EU’s new regulations, including the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and new steel norms, ensuring that green trade does not turn into a trade barrier.
Here’s what’s promising —
✅ Over 65% of the FTA chapters are already finalized.
✅ India is pushing for more access for labour-intensive exports like textiles, leather, and fisheries.
✅ The EU seeks opportunities in India’s automobile and premium beverage markets.
✅ Both sides aim to conclude talks by year-end — signaling serious intent.
