On August 1, India took a bold step — introducing ALMM norms for wind energy, just like it did for solar earlier.
It means: if you’re building a wind project in India, you must buy blades, gearboxes, towers only from government-approved Indian vendors. 💨
Why?
To cut dependence on China
To boost local OEMs like Suzlon & Inox Wind
And to stop operational wind data from leaving India 🛰️
At the same time, India is spending ₹5,400 Cr to make battery storage viable (via VGF grants). Another ₹7,453 Cr is aimed at offshore wind — which is super expensive.
Seems like a golden age for renewables, right?
Well, not so fast…
⚡ GRIDLOCK: India’s Biggest Renewable Roadblock
Imagine setting up a ₹500 Cr wind farm — and then not being able to sell power. That’s the nightmare JSW, Adani, NTPC, and others are living.
India now has 50 GW+ of stranded renewable power — ready to go, but with no grid lines to carry it. Transmission infra is lagging behind, and land permissions take years.
