⚡India to Refresh Solar Booster Scheme: Boosting Clean Energy Access
Imagine a solar revolution brightening rooftops across India—cutting electricity bills and pollution while creating jobs. The government’s “solar booster” scheme, officially known as PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, is getting an upgrade in 2025.
This refreshed program aims to ease up-front costs by offering subsidies up to 40% on rooftop solar installations—covering individual homes, apartment complexes, and housing societies.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has streamlined application processes online and aligned incentives with state DISCOMs, ensuring wider access especially for middle-class and rural households. Combining subsidy support with net metering and easy financing, the scheme targets installing over 4 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the next phase.
Additional related schemes like the Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects are enhancing utility-scale solar, complementing rooftop growth. With India’s ambitious clean energy goals aiming for 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030, this refreshed solar booster will be vital in accelerating the nation’s green transition.
