📉 Inflation at 6-Year Low, But Minds Still See It High — What This Means for Markets

In June 2025, India’s retail inflation cooled to 2.1%, the lowest in six years. The hero? Vegetables — prices fell 19% after last year’s weather shocks. Food inflation even turned slightly negative (-0.2%). But here’s the twist — the core inflation (excluding food & fuel) rose to 4.4%, signalling that price pressures in other areas are still alive. The RBI expects inflation to climb back near 4% by the end of the year as the “base effect” fades and demand strengthens. Interestingly, households still “feel” inflation is much higher. The RBI’s July survey shows people expect ~9% inflation over the next year. That’s a reminder that inflation is not just a number—it’s also a mindset. On the ground, auto sales gave mixed signals. Passenger cars slipped 1.4% YoY, and two-wheelers fell 6.6%—a sign rural demand might be cooling. But tractors and farm equipment sales jumped 10.7%, hinting at healthy farm incomes before harvest season. 📈 Possible Stock Market Beneficiaries (Educational & Not Investment Advice): Automobile – Tractor Makers: Escorts Kubota,

M&M
Mahindra & Mahindra – riding on strong farm equipment sales. Agro-Chemicals & Fertilizers: Coromandel International
COROMANDEL
, Rallis India – supported by farm income boost. Rural Consumption Plays: Hatsun Agro, V-Mart Retail – potential beneficiaries if rural cash flows improve post-harvest. 💡 Lone-Man Storytelling Angle: Think of inflation like a fever. The thermometer says you’re fine (2.1%), but you still “feel” hot (9% expectation). You skip buying a bike, hold off on big spends, but still invest in your farm tractor because the harvest promises good returns. That’s India’s market mood right now—cooler prices, cautious consumers, and a countryside quietly gearing up for its next growth cycle. Falling food prices lower headline inflation, but persistent core inflation and demand revival may shape sector performance in coming quarters.
