A flex fuel vehicle can run on any blend of petrol and ethanol from conventional petrol all the way to 100% ethanol (E100). The driver does not need to choose the engine automatically adjusts to whatever fuel is available. This gives consumers complete fuel flexibility while reducing dependence on imported crude oil. India imports over 85% of its crude oil a massive drain on foreign exchange reserves. Ethanol is made from sugarcane and other domestic crops meaning it can be produced entirely within India. Every litre of ethanol used instead of petrol reduces India's crude import bill directly. The government has been aggressively pushing ethanol blending targeting 20% ethanol in petrol by 2025.
