When the Cloud Turns Into Concrete........

Technology booms create opportunity and fraud; investors should verify assets, cash flows, customers, governance and execution not just exciting announcements. A technology boom often begins with a powerful story. AI needs computing. Computing needs servers. Servers need data centres. Data centres need land, electricity, cooling, networks and capital. India is entering this cycle at scale. But there is another side to every boom: the story can sometimes become bigger than the business. The recent SEBI order against Varanium Cloud is a powerful reminder. The company made multiple announcements around data centres, cloud services and expansion, while SEBI later found serious discrepancies between reported claims and what existed on the ground. That creates an important investing lesson: Don't invest in the headline. Investigate the infrastructure behind it. For India's data-centre and AI-infrastructure growth, some Nifty 500 companies that may benefit from different parts of this ecosystem include: • Netweb Technologies — AI servers & high-performance computing • Anant Raj

ANANTRAJ
— data-centre and cloud infrastructure • Techno Electric & Engineering — power and data-centre infrastructure • Tata Communications — connectivity and digital infrastructure • Bharti Airtel — data centres through Nxtra • Black Box — networking and digital infrastructure These are not stock recommendations. Each business has a different exposure, valuation, execution profile and risk. The bigger lesson is simple: A data-centre boom can create genuine wealth but only companies converting announcements into assets, customers, revenue and cash flow will ultimately prove the story.
