Why LG Electronics India Fell 2% What Rupee Depreciation and Commodity Costs Do to a Consumer Electronics Company

LG Electronics India shares fell 2.42% to ₹1,493.20 after posting weak Q4 FY26 results. Revenue grew 8% but profits fell 8% and margins contracted sharply a classic case of costs growing faster than revenue. TWO CULPRITS RUPEE AND COMMODITIES Rupee depreciation LG India imports components from its South Korean parent and global suppliers. When the rupee weakens against the dollar every imported component becomes more expensive directly squeezing margins. This is a risk unique to MNC subsidiaries that depend on imported inputs. Rising commodity prices Copper, steel and plastics key raw materials for electronics have been rising due to global supply disruptions from the West Asia crisis. Higher input costs without immediate price hikes to consumers lower margins. Despite weak margins Motilal Oswal remained upbeat. Post mid-April rainfall disruptions heatwave conditions drove strong demand for compressor-based products like ACs and refrigerators. An industry wide price hike is also underway to offset commodity costs which could restore margins in coming quarters. Operating margin tells how much profit a company keeps from every ₹100 of revenue after paying operating costs. LG India's margin fell from 14.07% to 11.75% meaning it now keeps ₹11.75 instead of ₹14.07 from every ₹100 earned. A 2.32 percentage point drop sounds small but on ₹8,054 crore revenue it means nearly ₹187 crore less profit. Track the industry-wide price hike timeline and whether commodity costs stabilise. If both happen together LG India's margins could recover sharply in Q1 FY27 driven by strong AC and refrigerator demand during summer. LG Electronics India's profit decline despite revenue growth taught me that rupee depreciation and rising commodity costs can silently crush margins of import-dependent companies, making it essential to track operating margins alongside revenue before investing in any consumer electronics stock. $LGEINDIA $VOLTAS $HAVELLS
