India-UK to Sign Major Free Trade Agreement During PM Modi’s UK Visit

PM Narendra Modi will visit the UK for the fourth time since 2014. During this visit, India and the UK will officially sign a free trade agreement (FTA) that took three years to finalize. Key Points: The FTA will boost trade between India and the UK, which was $55 billion in 2023-24. India will cut import duties on British whisky (from 150% to 75%), and cars (from 100% to 10%) under a quota. The UK will offer duty-free access for Indian textiles, electric vehicles, and other products. 99% of Indian exports will benefit from zero duties in the UK. The deal still needs final approval from both governments and is likely to take effect within a year. PM Modi will also meet UK PM Keir Starmer and business leaders to discuss trade, energy, education, and health. This deal is positive for trade, businesses, and exporters in both countries.
