IndiGo Launches External Probe After Massive Flight Cancellations; Chairman Issues Public Apology
India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has initiated an independent technical investigation to identify the root cause behind last week’s unprecedented mass-flight cancellations that severely disrupted the country’s aviation sector. In a statement on December 10, Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta said the airline will “examine every aspect of what went wrong” and ensure the situation is never repeated. Mehta issued an unconditional apology to passengers, acknowledging the airline had “let the customers down.” Calling the episode a “blemish” on IndiGo’s strong operational record, he confirmed corrective measures and an external review have already been initiated. Addressing speculation, Mehta clarified that IndiGo did not engineer the crisis to influence government aviation policies and reaffirmed that safety was never compromised. The airline, he said, fully complied with updated pilot fatigue (FDTL) rules and did not attempt to bypass them. The crisis saw thousands of flights cancelled nationwide, peaking on December 5. While operations have largely stabilised, disruptions continued mid-week with nearly 220 cancellations at major airports including Delhi and Mumbai. The aviation regulator DGCA has now formed a special oversight team and summoned IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers to submit a detailed report on the operational breakdown. 🔖 Hashtags: #IndiGo #AviationNews #FlightCancellations #DGCA #AviationCrisis #TravelUpdate #IndiaTravel #AirlinesUpdate #BreakingNews #IndiGoUpdate
