L&T, BEL to Submit EoI for India’s 5th-Gen Fighter Jet AMCA Programme
Engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and state-run Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) have announced plans to jointly submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) in the coming weeks for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme — India’s ambitious 5th-generation stealth fighter project. The consortium aims to combine L&T’s aerospace expertise with BEL’s defence electronics capabilities to support the indigenous development of the twin-engine, multi-role combat aircraft. Both firms have previously contributed to the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme with aero-structures and mission-critical avionics. L&T CMD SN Subrahmanyan termed the tie-up with BEL a “significant leap” in advancing India’s defence manufacturing and self-reliance, while BEL CMD Manoj Jain said the partnership will deliver a “world-class solution” to strengthen the Indian Air Force for decades. The AMCA project, led by DRDO’s Aeronautical Development Agency, is slated to build five prototypes before moving to series production, with induction into the IAF targeted by 2036. The Cabinet Committee on Security had cleared the project in 2024 with an estimated development cost of ₹15,000 crore. #LarsenToubro #BEL #AMCA #MakeInIndia #Defence #IndianAirForce #AtmanirbharBharat
