LIC Shares Surge Over 4% Post Q1 Results; Brokerages See Up To 55% Upside

Shares of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) jumped over 4% in morning trade on Thursday after the insurer reported a solid set of numbers for the first quarter of FY26, signaling improved profitability, asset quality, and solvency. LIC posted a standalone net profit of ₹10,987 crore for Q1FY26, marking a 5% year-on-year growth compared to ₹10,461 crore in the same quarter last year. The net premium income also rose 5% YoY to ₹1.19 lakh crore during the April–June period. The company’s solvency ratio improved to 2.17% from 1.99% last year. Asset quality also strengthened, with Gross NPA declining 21% YoY to ₹8,436.5 crore, and Net NPA plunging 36% YoY to just ₹4 crore. The Gross NPA ratio stood at 1.42%, down from 1.95% in Q1FY25. 📊 Stock Performance LIC’s stock was trading at ₹927 apiece, reflecting a 4% jump in early trade. Despite a 3% decline in the past month, the stock has gained nearly 14% over the last six months. It currently trades at a P/E ratio of 11.69. 🔍 Brokerages Bullish on LIC Several top brokerages have maintained a positive outlook on the stock: Motilal Oswal: Reiterated ‘Buy’ rating; revised target to ₹1,080 (22% upside). Macquarie: Maintained ‘Outperform’; target price ₹1,215 (31% upside). Citi: Reiterated ‘Buy’ rating with a target of ₹1,370 (48% upside). “LIC maintains its industry-leading position and is focusing on product diversification, high-margin non-par offerings, and digital cost optimization,” said Motilal Oswal in a note.
