OIL and BPCL Form Joint Venture to Develop City Gas Distribution Network in Arunachal Pradesh

In a major step toward expanding clean energy infrastructure in the North-East, Maharatna PSUs Oil India Limited (OIL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) have signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) to develop a City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in Arunachal Pradesh. The project will include the rollout of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) supply to households, businesses, and industries. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision of a gas-based economy and aims to enhance clean energy access in the region. “OIL has a long-standing legacy of hydrocarbon production in Arunachal Pradesh. With the commissioning of the Kumchai-Kusijan gas pipeline last year, we reinforced our role as an anchor in advancing India’s hydrocarbon vision for the North-East,” said Ranjit Rath, CMD, OIL. Sanjay Khanna, CMD of BPCL, added: “Together with OIL, we will build a strong CGD network to serve households, industries, and transport. This initiative will drive sustainable growth, improve quality of life, and support India’s gas-based economy.” The OIL-BPCL consortium had secured the CGD project during the 12th CGD bidding round conducted by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). Both companies will hold 50% stake each, with an option to offer up to 10% equity to the Arunachal Pradesh government.
