Pharma Stocks Gain Despite Trump’s Tariff Threat on Imports

On July 9, Indian pharmaceutical stocks rose even after U.S. President Donald Trump proposed a 200% tariff on all pharma imports, allowing up to 18 months for companies to shift operations to the U.S. Despite the warning, investors remained unfazed, with the Nifty Pharma index up 0.4% at 22,252.50 by 9:25 a.m. Top gainers included Lupin, Biocon, Aurobindo Pharma, and Laurus Labs, which rose up to 1.5%. The move could impact Indian pharma firms heavily reliant on U.S. generic drug exports.
