Vodafone Idea Shares Jump 6% on ₹3,300 Cr NCD Fundraise; AGR Relief Hopes Lift Sentiment

Shares of Vodafone Idea surged over 6 percent on December 19 after its subsidiary raised ₹3,300 crore through Non-Convertible Debentures (NCDs) and reports suggested possible government relief on adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. The stock climbed to ₹11.99, extending gains for the second straight session, and is up more than 49 percent so far in 2025. Vodafone Idea Telecom Infrastructure Ltd (VITIL) raised ₹3,300 crore via unlisted, unrated, secured NCDs, attracting strong interest from NBFCs, FPIs and AIFs. The proceeds will be used to meet payment obligations to Vodafone Idea, helping strengthen capex and support business growth. Adding to optimism, CLSA said the government may consider partial waiver of interest, penalties and interest on penalties related to AGR dues, which form a large portion of Vi’s estimated ₹83,400 crore liability. Any relief could significantly ease the telco’s financial stress. The rally also comes amid recent developments where the Supreme Court allowed a reassessment of Vi’s dues up to FY17, and the government remains the largest shareholder with nearly 49 percent stake after converting dues into equity. #VodafoneIdea #TelecomStocks #StockMarketNews #AGR #DebtFunding #IndianEquities #MarketUpdate
