Now it is applying the exact same model to medicines. 20% flat discount on all drugs no complicated loyalty points or conditions. If it worked for groceries there is no reason it cannot work for medicines where Indian consumers are extremely price sensitive.
Local chemists → Cannot match 20% discount without destroying margins. DMart's scale and buying power allows discounts that neighbourhood pharmacies simply cannot sustain.
E-pharmacies → Apollo Pharmacy online, PharmEasy and Tata 1mg are already burning cash on delivery. DMart pharmacy removes the delivery cost entirely customers pick up medicines while grocery shopping. Lower cost structure deeper discounts more pressure on e pharmacy profitability.
No new real estate costs. No new store setup. DMart carves out a pharmacy counter inside existing stores using already paid rent and footfall. This makes the pharmacy business profitable faster than any standalone pharmacy chain. Classic DMart capital efficiency applied to a new category.
