India–EU FTA: A New Road for Auto Stocks
Trade agreements can reshape costs, market access and exports, but investors must study company fundamentals before drawing conclusions.
Imagine an Indian factory making a car that was born in India.
Now imagine that car getting a cheaper road into Europe.
That is the bigger story behind the India–EU Free Trade Agreement.
But there is an interesting twist.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has now said that the **India-developed Kylaq will not be exported to Europe**, despite the FTA creating preferential access for Indian-origin cars. The company, however, continues to explore international opportunities and remains committed to India as a development and manufacturing hub.
Under the agreement, the EU is expected to allow up to **250,000 Indian-origin cars annually initially**, rising to 400,000 by the tenth year, while preferential tariffs are scheduled to fall over time.
So the lesson is bigger than one SUV.
If Indian manufacturing becomes more competitive globally, companies connected to automobiles, components, engineering and exports could potentially find new opportunities.
