Power DISCOMs Return to Profit in FY25 After Years of Losses.

TATAPOWER
— diversified electricity generation and distribution business with significant presence in power retail, transmission and distribution.
TORNTPOWER
— integrated energy company with power distribution operations in key urban areas. India’s power distribution companies (DISCOMs) collectively reported a positive Profit After Tax of ₹2,701 crore for FY 2024-25 after several years of losses, reversing losses of ₹25,553 crore in FY 2023-24 and much larger deficits in earlier years, the Ministry of Power stated. Reforms, reduced technical losses and improved cost recovery aided this turnaround. Financial turnaround reflects sector reforms and operational improvements like lower AT&C losses and narrowing cost-revenue gaps. Investors typically assess such developments for industry health, earnings stability and policy influence rather than as direct valuation signals. Sector-wide policy shifts can improve revenue visibility. Aggregate Technical & Commercial losses fell to about 15 % in FY25 from over 22 % a decade earlier. Structural reforms and efficiency improvements can materially affect financial outcomes in capital-intensive regulated industries like power distribution.
