Rs 1 lakh crore FII outflows in 16 sessions; selling at Rs 1,000 crore an hour Foreign investors have pulled out over Rs 1 lakh crore from India’s secondary markets since the escalation of the US-Iran-Israel conflict, which pushed oil prices higher and raised concerns over macroeconomic stability. FIIs sold Rs 1,00,040 crore in India’s secondary market between February 26 and March 20. Spread across about 16 trading days of six hours each, the outflows translate to roughly Rs 1,000 crore exiting the market every trading hour. So far in 2026, out of 50 trading sessions, 33 have seen FII selling. FIIs have been consistent sellers in recent years, with outflows of Rs 2.4 lakh crore in India’s secondary market in 2025. Out of 241 trading sessions, 156 sessions saw FII selling, translating to about Rs 166 crore of selling per hour. In 2024, FIIs sold Rs 1.29 lakh crore in the secondary market, with 134 out of 238 sessions witnessing selling, averaging about Rs 90 crore per hour. Aggressive s selling is seen on Pvt. Banks.
