Adani Power: Debt Trap to Cash Powerhouse

ADANIPOWER
Adani Power has turned its fortunes around, moving from heavy debt burdens to strong cash flows. Once struggling with losses and high leverage, the company now generates steady profits through better operations and power demand. This shift benefits shareholders by unlocking value and supporting growth. Dramatic Turnaround In FY14-21, Adani Power posted losses over Rs 12,000 crore due to debt stress. Since FY22, it flipped to profits nearing Rs 50,500 crore by FY25, thanks to higher plant load factors and stable tariffs. Debt slashed sharply, freeing up cash for reinvestment. Cash Flow Strength The firm now boasts robust free cash flows covering 68% of EBIT, enabling debt reduction at will. Q3 FY26 previews show revenue up 11% YoY, PAT rising 7%, and EBITDA jumping 27%. Long-term PPAs ensure predictable revenues amid India's power surge. Shareholder Gains This transformation is highly valuable for investors. Shares delivered 1,223% returns over five years, with net cash position boosting dividends and buybacks. ROE stays strong, rewarding holders with capital appreciation. Lower risk profile attracts more funds. Risks to Watch Fuel costs and coal supply could pressure margins if global prices spike. Group-level debt and regulatory changes pose mild threats. Recent Rs 7,500 crore NCD raise aims at refinancing, not net addition, maintaining discipline. Upside outweighs downsides for long-term shareholders.
