Aequs: Chasing a ₹5 Lakh Crore Sky

AEQUS
Aequs Limited is aggressively positioning itself to capture a share of India's burgeoning ₹5 lakh crore aerospace market. Aequs leverages its unique vertically integrated ecosystem in Belagavi to manufacture precision components for global giants like Airbus and Boeing. The company's financial trajectory reflects this aggressive scaling. In Q1 FY27, consolidated revenue surged 55% year-on-year to ₹396 crore. The aerospace division remains the core profit engine, with its order book crossing the $1 billion (approx. ₹8,300–₹9,500 crore) mark, providing revenue visibility roughly eight times its FY26 division revenue. Management has guided for 25–30% aerospace revenue growth in FY27, aiming for segment EBITDA margins above 20%. To fuel this, Aequs plans significant capital expenditure, with ₹660 crore allocated for FY27 and a longer-term investment horizon of $350–400 million through FY31, including a new ₹1,900 crore facility in Hosur for aero-engine components. Aequs presents a high-risk, high-reward proposition. The potential upside is substantial; capturing even a fraction of the ₹5 lakh crore opportunity could multiply revenues significantly. The $1 billion order book and long-term contracts, such as the 15-year Safran deal, offer rare visibility in a capital-intensive sector. The company is currently loss-making, with negative free cash flow driven by heavy working capital needs and capex. The consumer segment, while growing fast, is still in a ramp-up phase and drags overall profitability. With 99% of raw materials imported, currency and supply chain risks are elevated. Aequs is a strategic bet on India's manufacturing rise. For long-term investors, the current valuation premiums may be justified if management executes its capacity expansion and margin improvement plans. However, patience is required, as profitability may remain elusive until the consumer segment stabilizes and new facilities like Hosur become operational post-2028.
