China1 Tailwind: Acutaas’ High‑Purity Bet

ACUTAAS
Acutaas Chemicals is transforming itself from a pharma intermediates player into a multi‑segment specialty platform spanning pharma CDMO, battery chemicals and semiconductor materials. In H1 FY26, the company reported revenue of about ₹513 crore, up a robust 21% year‑on‑year, with EBITDA rising sharply to roughly ₹146 crore and margins expanding to around 28%. Net profit more than doubled to nearly ₹116 crore, and full‑year FY26 revenue is estimated near ₹1,339 crore with record profitability. Valuation has re‑rated aggressively, with the stock trading at a rich EV/EBITDA multiple of roughly 41x and a P/E above 60x, reflecting high growth expectations but also elevating downside risk if execution falters. The China1 opportunity sits at the core of Acutaas’ strategy. Global customers diversifying away from Chinese supply chains are seeking reliable, high‑purity partners, especially for semiconductor photoresist materials and battery electrolyte additives like Vinylene Carbonate (VC) and Fluoroethylene Carbonate (FEC). Acutaas is investing about ₹180 crore in a Jhagadia plant, with 2,000 MT capacity each for VC and FEC, fully export‑oriented and backed by long‑term contracts, targeting margins near 20% and payback in three to three‑and‑a‑half years. Management also aims for around ₹1,000 crore in CDMO revenue by FY28 and is pursuing a Korea JV for semiconductor chemicals. This pivot is structurally attractive: diversified growth drivers, higher‑margin chemistries, strong cash generation and clear capex‑linked visibility. The risk, however, lies in the rich valuation, dependence on flawless ramp‑up of new capacities and sustained global demand. If management delivers on battery and semiconductor scale‑up, today’s premium can be justified; if not, the de‑rating could be painful. Overall, the China1‑aligned strategy is more beneficial than detrimental for long‑term investors who can tolerate execution risk and near‑term volatility.
