LLOYDSENGG
Lloyds Engineering Works (NSE: LEWL) is a naval engineering company and group entity of Lloyds Metals and Energy. It supplies Steering Gear Systems, Fin Stabilisers, and propulsion components to Mazagon Dock, GRSE, Goa Shipyard, and Cochin Shipyard; 116+ Indian Navy and Coast Guard vessels carry its systems.
What happened: Q1FY27 revenue rose 143% to Rs 527.2 crore. EBITDA grew 124% to Rs 79.2 crore; margin contracted 97 bps to 14.7%; net profit rose 228%. The order book grew from Rs 7.4 crore (FY22) to Rs 144 crore (FY26); LEWL achieved 95% domestic sourcing in FY26. Fincantieri (Italy) and Kliver Polska (Poland) partnerships added propellers and shafting systems, raising per-ship addressable value from Rs 8-10 crore to Rs 40-50 crore.
Why it matters: India’s Navy plans to grow from 132 to 200 warships by 2035; Rs 2.35 lakh crore in orders is anticipated in FY26-27. LEWL estimates a Rs 20,000 crore addressable naval equipment market. Naval Systems Division has a 2-year pipeline of Rs 1,900 crore; Aerospace and Strategic Systems a 3-year pipeline of Rs 6,000 crore. The risk: at 62.6x P/E -- 76% above the 35.5x industry median -- ROCE is 16.1% and ROE is 15.1%.
What I am watching: Conversion from the Rs 1,900 crore and Rs 6,000 crore pipelines, and revenue from Fincantieri and FlyFocus partnerships.
My stance: The 143% revenue and 228% profit growth show execution improving. The European partnerships -- 5x per-ship value -- are a structural shift. But at 62.6x P/E against 16% ROCE, much is priced in. I need to see the pipeline convert to orders before building any exposure.
I do not hold a position in Lloyds Engineering Works at the time of writing. This is not investment advice.#WatchOutFor#EquityResearch#TrendingSectors#HiddenGems#FundamentalViews
