MAZDOCK
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited is India’s leading government-owned shipyard, known for building destroyers and submarines for the Indian Navy. It is the first PSU in India to receive ‘Navratna’ status, highlighting its strategic importance. The company plays a vital role in enhancing India’s naval strength by constructing advanced submarines like the Scorpene class with France’s Naval Group. It also leads the building of Nilgiri-class stealth frigates and manufactures corvettes. Between 2014 and 2025, Mazagon Dock delivered seven destroyers, including INS Nilgiri, INS Surat, and INS Vagsheer.
Supporting India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, Mazagon Dock has increased indigenous content in building ships from 42% in older destroyers to 75% in current frigates. The company is investing ₹64 billion to expand capacity through new shipyards in Nhava and Tuticorin, improving commercial shipbuilding and repair capabilities. Additionally, it acquired a 51% stake in Colombo Dockyard to enter international markets and plans to increase revenues there.
Financially, the company reported 9% revenue growth in the first half of FY26 but faced a 6% drop in EBITDA and profit due to provisions for onerous contracts. Its order book remains robust at ₹274 billion and is expected to exceed ₹1 trillion by FY27, providing long-term revenue visibility.
For shareholders, Mazagon Dock is a key defense player with growth potential. Near-term financial challenges exist, but a growing order book, strategic expansion, and increased indigenous production suggest sustainable growth ahead. Investors should consider execution risks against the promising defense sector outlook.#WatchOutFor#TrendingSectors#FundamentalViews#EquityResearch
