Mphasis is turning into a strong mid-cap IT story in the AI race. The company is using AI-led deals, digital engineering, and modernization work to grow faster than many larger peers, but the gains are coming with some margin pressure.
The latest numbers show steady momentum. In Q1FY27, revenue from operations rose to Rs 4,384.05 crore, up 17.5% year on year and 3.3% quarter on quarter. Net profit increased 10.8% to Rs 489.51 crore, while profit before tax rose to Rs 682.79 crore. EBITDA stood at Rs 795.17 crore. In dollar terms, revenue was $471 million, with constant currency growth of 8.3% year on year. The company also won net new total contract value of $461 million, and 63% of that was AI-led.
For shareholders, this is encouraging. Strong deal wins and rising AI exposure suggest that Mphasis is not just growing, it is building a better business mix for the future. If these AI projects convert into revenue smoothly, the company can support earnings growth and keep investor interest strong.
The positive side is clear: AI is creating a new demand cycle, and Mphasis seems well placed to benefit. Its pipeline has strengthened, direct business remains healthy, and the company is moving toward higher-value work. That can be valuable for shareholders over the medium term.
But there is a drawback too. Growth is coming with higher ramp-up costs and acquisition-related pressure, which pulled operating margin down to 14.8% from 15.4% in the previous quarter. If margins stay weak, the market may not reward the stock as much as expected.
Overall, Mphasis looks beneficial for shareholders if execution remains disciplined. It has a promising AI-led growth story, but the real test will be whether it can turn that momentum into stable profits and better margins.#EquityResearch#FundamentalViews#WatchOutFor#TrendingSectors
