"Paras Defence: Niche Growth in India's Defence Takeoff"

PARAS
Paras Defence and Space Technologies Limited is a leading player in India's defence and space sectors. It specialises in designing, developing, manufacturing, and testing a broad range of products. Its main areas include optics, optronic systems, defence electronics, and heavy engineering. The company is uniquely positioned as the only large-scale manufacturer of infrared optics in India, supplying essential parts used in missiles, drones, satellites, and other critical defence platforms. The company’s financial growth has been steady. Revenue rose from around ₹143 crore in FY21 to ₹365 crore in FY24, reflecting a strong 20% compound annual growth rate. Net profit also improved from ₹19 crore to ₹61 crore, a 26% CAGR. While its return on equity is moderate at about 9%, Paras Defence continues to invest heavily in capacity expansion at its Ambernath plant and in developing indigenous technologies. These investments aim to secure a stronger position in future defence projects. For shareholders, the company presents both opportunities and risks. It serves major government and space customers including BEL, HAL, DRDO, and ISRO, which gives it a stable order pipeline. Expanding export efforts and exploring global partnerships could enhance future revenues, though these international ventures are still developing. Short-term growth might face challenges due to long project timelines, delays in government approvals, and operational costs such as rising interest expenses. In summary, Paras Defence combines moderate yet consistent growth with strategic importance in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. It offers shareholders a chance to invest in a niche, technologically advanced, and growing part of the defence sector. However, investors should be mindful of some execution risks and the relatively modest returns compared to some peers.
