Radico Khaitan: Premium Spirits Propel Profits but Price Caps Cloud Margins

RADICO
Radico Khaitan is riding the premiumisation wave in India’s spirits sector, delivering its best-ever results in Q1 FY26. The company’s revenues surged 32% year-on-year to ₹1,507 crore, fueled by a massive 38% jump in IMFL volumes to 9.72 million cases. Prestige and above brand volumes rose 41%, showing strong demand for higher-quality products like Rampur single malt and Magic Moments vodka among urban consumers. This strategic focus has paid off handsomely for shareholders. Profit after tax soared 75% over last year to ₹133 crore, as improved product mix and stable raw material costs led EBITDA margins to expand to 15.3%. The value of premium segment sales climbed 43%, reflecting Radico’s effective branding and distribution efforts. Radico continues to launch premium and luxury spirits, such as Morpheus Super Premium Whisky and The Spirit of Kashmyr vodka, positioning itself to dominate the affluent segment and sustain higher profitability. Net debt was reduced by ₹164 crore this quarter, further strengthening the company’s financial health and supporting future growth plans. However, short-term risks persist, driven by state-level price controls and ongoing pressure from higher selling and distribution costs, which saw a sharp 48% YoY increase. Rural demand remains patchy, but urban momentum is robust, cushioning against volatility. For shareholders, Radico Khaitan offers impressive growth and margin improvements as premium spirits gain traction in India. Improved debt metrics and ongoing brand expansion signal long-term value creation. However, continued vigilance on regulatory risks and cost control will be key to sustaining this positive trajectory.
