Ramkrishna Forgings: Forging Growth with Vande Bharat Wheels

RKFORGE
Ramkrishna Forgings, with over four decades of experience, is a key player in manufacturing forged wheels crucial for India’s Vande Bharat trains. As part of a joint venture with Titagarh Wagons, it is set to build Asia’s second-largest forged wheel plant in Tamil Nadu, targeting an annual capacity of 228,000 wheels. The facility will ramp up in phases, aiming to supply over 80,000 forged wheels annually to Indian Railways, with significant export potential as well. This strategic move is expected to fuel demand, with Vande Bharat and other semi-high-speed trains requiring around 2 lakh forged wheels annually from 2026. The contracts secured provide assured revenue visibility, and initial supply of 40,000 wheels is anticipated in FY27, marking a critical revenue milestone. However, the company faced margin pressures recently due to subdued Q1FY26 performance, with revenue rising 6%, but EBITDA and PAT falling sharply. Management expects these to improve gradually as capacity utilization rises and cost efficiencies take hold. For shareholders, Ramkrishna’s involvement in the Vande Bharat program offers promising long-term growth prospects fueled by government infrastructure expansion and import substitution. Yet, execution risks remain, given the significant investment and near-term profitability challenges. The company's current valuation suggests cautious optimism, with value hinging on successful plant commissioning and margin recovery. In essence, Ramkrishna Forgings is welding a crucial link in India’s rail future that could pay off for patient investors as growth and margins improve.
