Silver Surge: Boon for HZL Shareholders?

HINDZINC
Hindustan Zinc (HZL), India's top zinc producer and a global top-5 silver maker, posted record Q3FY26 results fueled by soaring silver prices. Net profit jumped 46% year-on-year to ₹3,879 crore, with revenue up 28% to ₹10,922 crore. Silver drove 44% of profitability, its highest share ever, as output hit 158 tonnes, up 10% sequentially. This silver rally benefits shareholders immensely. Spot prices topped $30/oz globally and ₹2.64 lakh/kg on MCX, boosting EBITDA by 35% to ₹6,055 crore (55% margin). Every $1/oz silver rise lifts EBITDA ~1%, turning HZL into a pure-play on the metal's upcycle from solar, EV, and electronics demand. Stock soared 43% yearly, hitting 52-week highs around ₹700, with ROE at 78% vs. 5-year average 43%. Analysts like Jefferies rate 'Buy' at ₹660 target, citing 9-31% EPS growth FY26-28 on silver leverage (40-45% EBIT share). Yet, risks loom for shareholders. HZL's fate ties to volatile commodities; silver dipped recently, causing 6% stock drop to ₹588. Zinc/lead also matter, but silver sensitivity amplifies swings. Supply gluts or economic slowdowns could erode gains. Can the rally sustain? Structural silver deficits and HZL's low-cost ops (77% India zinc share) support yes. Capacity expansions promise more output. For shareholders, it's valuable now—strong cash flows fund dividends—but hold cautiously amid price cycles.
