Suzlon Energy: Winds of Opportunity or Overreach?

SUZLON
Suzlon Energy, one of India’s top wind turbine makers, is growing fast with a broad portfolio ranging from turbine components to full project execution and operations for wind power. After overcoming past financial troubles, the company now stands on a stable footing, with a robust net worth of ₹6,542 crore and cash reserves of ₹1,620 crore. Its banking lines worth ₹7,000 crore allow Suzuki to pursue an expanding order pipeline and power new installations. In the first quarter of FY26, Suzlon delivered its strongest start ever, supplying 444 MW and building its order book to 5.7 GW—ten straight quarters of growth. The S144 turbine has gained traction for its high efficiency and lower emissions, and Suzlon’s manufacturing capacity is running at full utilization. The services segment also manages over 15 GW of projects at 95% uptime, securing stable revenue. Suzlon’s other branches, including Renom (3 GW of assets in O&M) and SE Forge, are diversifying further, heading into non-wind applications and exports. Policy changes—especially India’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM)—favor domestic manufacturers, keeping Suzlon ahead of foreign competition and boosting long-term prospects. The company is tackling land and grid issues proactively by pre-acquiring sites for future commissioning and expects returns by FY27. R&D efforts are developing next-generation turbines to maintain competitiveness in both home and export markets. For shareholders, Suzlon’s turnaround and focus on indigenization shine as strengths. India’s push to install more renewable gigawatts, strong demand, and government backing place Suzlon in a prime position. However, stretched valuations mean future risk if execution stumbles, costs surge, or market momentum slows. While the growth outlook is bright and policy tailwinds strong, shareholders must balance optimism with caution as Suzlon moves from recovery to leadership in India’s wind revolution.
