TATAELXSI
Tata Elxsi (NSE: TATAELXSI) is a Tata Group engineering R&D company. It provides software-defined vehicle architecture, ADAS, EV technologies, and telecom network automation to global OEMs. Its platforms -- ***** for automotive software and NEURON for telecoms -- anchor its shift beyond pure engineering headcount.
What happened: Q1FY27 revenue rose 14.5% YoY to Rs 1,021 crore -- the first Rs 1,000 crore quarter. EBITDA grew 15.7% to Rs 216 crore; margin improved 30 bps YoY to 21.2% but fell 340 bps QoQ. Net profit rose 18.1% to Rs 170.6 crore. Management cited sub-contract costs, higher AI spend, and upfront contract costs. 78% of automotive revenue now comes from OEMs, cutting Tier-1 dependence.
Why it matters: Global ER&D spending is set to reach $2.5 trillion by 2030 from $1.5 trillion in 2024 -- yet only 5-6% is outsourced, against 46% for IT. Tata Elxsi’s JSW Motors partnership (JNEXT Center) and Japanese OEM deals are two new levers. The risk: at 27.8x P/E against a 5-year median of 57.3x and industry median of 18.87x, the stock is de-rated but not yet cheap.
What I am watching: Whether QoQ margin recovery shows up in Q2FY27, and order flow from Japanese OEM deals and the JSW JNEXT center.
My stance: The Rs 1,000 crore milestone and 14.5% growth show demand holding. ***** and NEURON are real differentiators as AI compresses engineering hours. But a 340 bps QoQ margin drop blamed on sub-contracts needs to resolve fast. At 27.8x -- well below the 57.3x median -- markets are skeptical. I want margin recovery and deal wins before adding exposure.
I do not hold a position in Tata Elxsi at the time of writing. This is not investment advice.#WatchOutFor#StockInNews#EquityResearch#TrendingSectors#FundamentalViews
