Waaree: Growth With a Cash Catch

$WAAREEENER Waaree Energies looks strong on growth, but the real question for shareholders is whether that growth can turn into durable cash. The company’s revenue has surged from ₹11,398 crore in FY24 to ₹14,444 crore in FY25 and ₹26,537 crore in FY26, while profit rose from ₹1,274 crore to ₹1,928 crore and then to ₹3,884 crore. That is impressive on the surface, but the cash flow picture is less comforting. The stock is also not cheap in the usual sense of a cyclical industrial business. It trades at a market cap of about ₹86,806 crore, a price of ₹3,017, and a P/E of 22.1, with ROCE at 38.8% and ROE at 32.8%. These are strong return metrics, which support the premium, but they also mean investors are already paying for a lot of good news. The concern is that operating strength has not fully translated into free cash flow. Screener shows free cash flow at -₹114 crore in FY25 and -₹3,209 crore in FY26, even though operating profit jumped to ₹5,909 crore in FY26. Cash conversion fell to 47% in FY26 from 143% in FY25, while working capital days turned less efficient at -26 and the cash conversion cycle widened to 90 days. For shareholders, this is both beneficial and risky. Beneficial because Waaree is a clear scale leader in solar manufacturing, with strong earnings momentum and high return ratios. Risky because aggressive growth needs heavy capital, inventory, and receivables support, which can pressure cash and raise execution risk. If the company keeps expanding without tighter cash discipline, profit quality may lag headline growth. In simple terms, Waaree is a good business with strong momentum, but shareholders should watch cash flow as closely as revenue. If management converts this growth into steady free cash generation, the stock can justify its premium better. If not, the gap between accounting profit and real cash may become the main drag on long-term value.
