Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited reported a standalone net loss of ₹3,962 crore in Q1 FY2026-27, marking its first quarterly loss in 15 quarters. The weak performance was primarily driven by elevated global crude oil prices, lower fuel marketing margins due to unchanged retail fuel prices, and under-recoveries on LPG sales. Despite the loss, the company's revenue from operations increased 23% year-on-year to around ₹1.59 lakh crore, supported by strong fuel demand and higher refinery throughput. Management highlighted that refining operations remained resilient, but the sharp rise in crude costs significantly impacted overall profitability, and investors will closely watch future fuel pricing policies and refining margins for signs of earnings recovery.
