Nifty 50 has been facing sustained selling pressure

RIIL
Nifty 50 has been facing sustained selling pressure due to a combination of global uncertainties, foreign institutional investor (FII) outflows, elevated crude oil prices, rupee weakness and concerns over inflation and interest rates. One of the biggest reasons is continuous FII selling: foreign investors sold approximately ₹30,294 crore worth of Indian equities during the week ending October 9, 2026, while domestic institutional investors bought nearly ₹30,313 crore, helping absorb some of the selling pressure. Another major concern is crude oil trading above $100 per barrel amid Middle East tensions, which can increase India's import bill, put pressure on the rupee, raise inflation and reduce corporate profit margins. The RBI's recent interest-rate increase and its more cautious policy stance have also raised concerns about borrowing costs and economic growth, while elevated US bond yields make emerging-market equities relatively less attractive to foreign investors. In addition, persistent rupee depreciation, uncertainty surrounding global markets and cautious expectations ahead of India's inflation data and quarterly corporate earnings are keeping investors defensive. Although domestic mutual fund buying continues to provide support, fresh equity issuance and persistent foreign selling are limiting the market's recovery. Overall, these factors have contributed to Nifty's recent weakness; however, a sustained recovery in crude oil prices, improved foreign fund flows, stronger corporate earnings and easing inflation concerns could help sentiment improve. Note: Nifty has not fallen every single day; it rebounded on Friday, October 9, before coming under pressure again on Monday, October 12
