Utkarsh Small Finance Bank (UTKARSHBNK) is showing signs of recovery, but the fundamental picture is still high-risk. In Q1 FY27, the bank reported a net loss of ₹33.9 crore, significantly lower than the ₹239.5 crore loss in Q1 FY26 and ₹188 crore loss in Q4 FY26. The improvement was mainly due to a sharp 73.5% YoY fall in provisions to ₹109 crore.
The biggest positive is the improvement in asset quality. GNPA declined to 6.09% from 7.7% in Q4 and 11.42% a year earlier, while NNPA improved to around 2.9%. However, GNPA remains elevated, so the recovery is not yet complete.
A major concern is profitability: operating profit fell around 30.6% YoY to ₹63.6 crore, while NII was ₹422 crore. The bank is still dealing with the after-effects of stress in its microfinance/unsecured lending portfolio, which has historically accounted for a significant portion of its loan book.#FundamentalViews#TechnicalViews
