Breakout and consolidation is a common price action concept in technical analysis. Consolidation occurs when a stock moves in a narrow range for some time, showing a balance between buyers and sellers and indicating that the market is preparing for the next move. During this phase, the price forms a support and resistance zone. When the price finally moves strongly above the resistance level or below the support level with increased volume, it is called a breakout. This breakout often signals the start of a new trend or a strong directional move, as traders enter the market after the consolidation phase ends.
